AVERAGE SIZE: 3 to 6 feet tall. GROWTH RATE: Slow LEAF: Medium green, glossy; Oblong, narrow; about 2 to 3 inches long FLOWER: Yellow clusters that measure up to 4 inches across. Year-round bloom. GROWING CONDITIONS WATER: Once established, medium water requirements. Ideal is twice a week. CARE: For maximum blooms, hand-prune hard once a year, in the fall. Better if maintained at 3 feet tall. A lovely variation of one of the most popular
shrubs in south Florida.
Ixora may be the most common flowering shrub seen in South Florida. 'Singapore' is an especially nice, yellow-flowered variety. Blooming year-round, the peak time is late spring through early winter. This profuse bloomer makes a good hedge that can be shaped into formal columns or used as a walkway hedge. If not blooming as rapidly as desired, prune heavily in the fall, so the branches have time to grow back enough to support spring flowers.
Expect fewer blooms in winter months. Ixora is
a warm weather bloomer.
